E.S.B.A Beginners Course
The beginner¹s classes will comprise four evening sessions with lectures and demonstrations, and two apiary visits. The sessions will be in the Dundee Methodist Hall 20 West Marketgait Dundee DD1 1QR, Dundee on Tuesdays 21st and 28th February, 14 and 21st March 2017, starting at 7 pm until 9 pm. Details for at least two apiary visits will be set at a later date.
The cost is £40 and this includes a one-year subscription to E.S.B.A. The topics that will be covered include: aspects of honeybee biology, the colony through the year, clothing and equipment needs, hive types, siting an apiary, stings and safety, swarm control, queen rearing and making increase, uniting colonies, bee diseases, feeding and preparations for winter, advice on where to obtain bees and how to transport them, honey extraction and legal requirements of marketing a foodstuff.
The dates and times of apiary visits will be decided at alater date, and two will probably be held in late April and May. There is also a good chance of at least a third in July/August. We will endeavor to match up beginners with appropriate mentors for the season.
