Many thanks to all who attended the Peeblesshire BKA meeting last night, and to Mr MacAskill(our local Bee Inspector) for an excellent and informative talk.

'Principles of Practical Beekeeping' by R Couston re-published

I am delighted to report that Northern Bee Books have reprinted the well known 1972 edition of the book 'Principles of Practical Beekeeping' by Robert Couston.   This has been out of print for some time and  has been almost impossible to obtain a copy. I now have it on sale at £11.95p plus p & p. Robert Couston, N.D.B., F.R.E.S.,  was a beekeeping advisor at The East of Scotland College of Agriculture, a member of the SBA, member of The Bee Farmers Ass. and a member of the Examination Board for National Diploma and National Certificate in Beekeeping. The original photos have been used and it may have an 'old fashioned' appearance but the book is well worth having, especially for Scottish Beekeepers.   There are a lot of excellent beekeeping books but this is the only one which deals with the Scottish side to beekeeping as the timing of certain procedures are later in Scotland compaired to south of England. SBA - The Next Five Years

Where do YOU want the SBA to be in the next five years? At the Local Association Secretaries' meeting on November 26th, the President announced that a special executive meeting will take place early in March 2012 to begin to consider the future shape and direction of the association, and invited comments and suggestions from members in advance of the meeting. The Web Master introduced the topic to everyone present at the meeting,  outlining the broad work areas  covered by the Association, and inviting comment and suggestions from the floor. A number of useful ideas were exchanged, and the Executive looks forward to receiving more feedback from members before the meeting scheduled for March next year.
